We started Civilized because the communities that need the most support are often the hardest to reach. That's still what drives us.
Nonprofits and civic organizations work hard to serve their communities. They publish newsletters, run programs, staff phone lines, and show up every day. But when a resident needs help at 9pm on a Tuesday, that work is invisible — buried in PDFs, scattered across websites, lost in voicemail.
We built Civilized to close that gap. Not by asking organizations to change how they work, but by making what they already do instantly findable, in any language, at any hour.
We're a startup, which means things change quickly. But we don't ship things we're not proud of, and we don't make promises we can't keep. You'll always know where things stand.
When you work with Civilized, you're not a ticket in a queue. We're invested in your success because your community's success is the whole point. Expect real conversations, not canned responses.
AI should handle the hard, invisible work, expanding what communities are capable of — not replacing the people who serve them. We believe AI should always be accountable to someone — guided by humans.
We chose New Orleans on purpose. We could have built this anywhere — we built it here because this city taught us what it looks like when communities show up for each other. That's the energy we bring to every partnership.
We're a small, focused team of engineers, designers, and community strategists based in New Orleans. We care about building tools people need, moving quickly, leveraging AI technology for good, and helping communities that have been underserved.
We're growing. If you want to do work that matters — and have fun doing it in one of the most interesting cities in the world — we'd love to hear from you.
Civilized was founded by two people who saw the same problem from different angles — one who built platforms at scale, and one who watched government complexity stifle the communities that needed help most.
Matt built TurboSquid from a startup into the world's leading 3D marketplace - acquired by Shutterstock for $75 million.
Based in New Orleans, he saw firsthand how government complexity stifled entrepreneurship. When AI finally made intelligent coordination possible, he saw the opportunity to build the coordination layer government has needed for decades.
Silviu founded Free3D.com in high school, growing it into the world's largest site for free 3D models before its acquisition by TurboSquid.
He went on to lead development as Shutterstock's Senior Software Development Manager and Site Lead, bringing deep technical expertise and a builder's instinct for scalable, user-focused platforms.
A few principles we won't compromise on.
Your website, your newsletters, your emails — Civilized connects to what you already publish. No migration. No new content workflows. No replacing the tools your team already knows.
Every answer Civilized gives is grounded in your approved content, with visible citations. When it doesn't know something, it says so — and alerts you so you can fill the gap. No hallucinations. No guessing on your behalf.
When you publish on Civilized, your content becomes part of a federated network of community organizations. A family asking another org a question you can answer — gets your answer. Your impact doesn't stop at your website.
Civilized responds in 70+ languages automatically. No translation team, no extra setup. Because if someone in your community can't get an answer in their language, you haven't really answered them.
Our investors aren't just writing checks — they're rooted in the same communities we're building for. Benson Capital, Tulane Ventures, Capital Factory, and local investors who believe communities deserve technology that actually works within their constraints.
